I'm told that I have an obsessive personality. I must admit that I can be very focused, and when I love something, I LOVE it, almost to the exclusion of everything else. So, here are my current obsessions:
Tea
|
I have about 60 varieties of loose tea in my house, but I believe my favorites are Royal Coconut and Ginger Peach. When I'm working at home, I tend to go through at least 3 - 5 cups a day. MMMMMM! I was recently caught actually kissing a cup of really good tea.

Aretha
Franklin
|
I don't think a day has past in the last month when I haven't listened to "Until You Come Back to Me" at least once (I think my average is about 4 times a day). I've barely listened to anything else PERIOD for quite some time now. I just received one of her albums on vinyl, and HOLY SHIT I had the closest thing I have ever had to a transcendental experience! |
This is now my favorite film. I see it every time it comes to LA. It was also the first video that I have rented since 1996. I believe that this movie is pretty much flawless.
The Color
Orange
|
I've never met an orange T shirt that I didn't like. I'm also the proud owner of orange sneakers now.... not to mention a quite nice vintage orange teapot.
I bought it last summer, and I'm still OBSESSED with the fact that I own a part electric car! I can't say enough good about it. I worship my car! I also must admit that I am proud of myself that I saved for 9 friggin' years and paid for the whole thing outright in cash. The guys at the dealership didn't quite know what to make of me for that! I took the car on tour with me this Fall, practically lived in it for 2 months and put 13,000+ miles on it, and had the best damn time!
I saw it 9 times in the theaters and quote it non-stop. I also posses the comic book and the Enid Doll... but not the script, so if you're looking for a gift to get me... ;-)
Vintage
Alarm Clocks
|
I'm into collecting 1960's - 1980's advertising alarm clocks. My favorites are my Charlie the Tuna clock and my Mr.Peanut clock.
I love to cook it, I love to eat it and I love to TALK about cooking and eating it. I love to cook vegan food for meat eaters and impress them. I love to hunt for vegans on Yahoo and talk about food. And I recently went even a little MORE crazy and bought a web cam, which I have dubbed the Vegan Kitchen Cam... so if you have Yahoo Messenger, you can come and watch me cook vegan food. I know, other offer you live sex shows, I offer you the chance to watch me saute soy. :-) I plan to have it turned on whenever I'm doing food type stuff in the kitchen... I'm excited about it!

They are the only band that I still make sure I'm pressed up against the stage at their shows. "Stay Human" is also the best cd of 2001. And anyone who has known me for more than 10 minutes can tell you my exact feelings on the subject of Michael Franti.

My favorite film until Run Lola Run knocked it out of first place. I see this one every time it comes to LA, and I actually OWN it on video (which is really saying something, since I don't even own a TV or a VCR). I have to say, this film is pretty much perfect as well. I thinks it's probably the only musical EVER to not have the hokey "Suddenly everyone in the grocery store is singing and dancing!" quality to it. And I'm sorry, but Liza fucking rocks!
This is remotely embarassing, but I was actually brought to tears by looking at a picture of it ON THE COMPUTER. When I finally see it in person, I expect they will have to take me from the scene on a stretcher.
I decided
to spare everyone the gorey photo for this catergory.

Dr. Laura
|
I almost didn't admit this. Only a few people who know me are actually aware of my severe Dr. Laura obsession. But yes, I admit, I listen to her for 3 hours a day. I can't explain it.... some if it is that you just can't help but stare at the accident. But mostly, I just LOVE how over the top she is, and that 99% of the show consists of her berating and belittling her callers. She's completely outrageous, and I get a huge kick out of the whole thing. |

I try to get there every Saturday morning to buy my locallly grown organic produce. It's cheaper than in the food store and it is just inherently cooler to buy stuff directly from the people who grew it. But what really makes me love this particular Farmer's Market is the "regulars" that I see there.... The Sprout Man who calls out like a barker about, "The Broccolli! The Arrrrrugula!"... the crossing guard who always identifies the vehicle coming through, "Laundry Truck Coming Through! Green New Beetle Coming Through!"... and the Cute Mushroom Boy. I love going there A LOT.
My "Novel"
|
I got inspired to write a "novel" this past October, and I was obsessed with it... and still am, although it is almost finished. I'm into calling it my "novel" even though it is A) nonfiction (more of a memoir) and B) only about 40 pages long. I don't think that I will actually have anyone read the whole thing, except for that Special Human that it is about. But I sure have been having a blast writing it.
Luckily, I have a job that not only ALLOWS me to travel, it often MAKES me travel! I LOVE going on tour. I also LOVE driving or flying all over the US to visit friends, attend conferences, go to music festivals and concerts. At this point, the only states I have not yet been to are Alaska, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Nina Simone
|
I've liked her for many years now, but it was only recently that she REALLY knocked my socks off and made me cry when I was listening to her in the car. So, if I'm not listening to Aretha Franklin, I'm probably listening to Nina Simone. |
Ugly Dresses
|
I've always kind of had a thing for outrageous patterns. I used to do dresses a lot, but then I became butch, so it was only loud pants for a few years there... now, I'm entering a femme stage again, and I've decided to fully embrace again the glory that is a really terrible, loud, ugly, so-bad-it's-good, vintage dress. |
